Burn 1st XI vs York University Staff |
|
University of York Staff 146 lost to Burn 222-5 by 76 runs
Burn continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive victory over last season's champions at the university in York.
Batting first the away side sent in Boo Adamson and Andy Watson who combined well in the opening exchanges, moving the total on quickly, before Watson was harshly adjudged to be out LBW for 38, when insistent the ball had struck his bat. Adamson continued to profit at the crease and was ably assisted by Tom Rich (18) and Adam Prescott (16 not out) as he made his way to his first century of the season. Adamson lasted the full 40 overs with an impressive 111 not out to further improve his average for the season to 170! Rob Webster also contributed with a quick-fire dozen as Burn reached 222 for 5 at tea.
The Uni Staff were then never allowed to get going. Opening bowlers Prescott and Gareth Beavors were particularly stingy, leaving the home side at only 35 for 2 from 17 overs. Prescott was also impressive in the field with a spectacular direct hit run out. Jamie Bingle then bowled a delighful 12 over spell to further restrict Uni Staff's progress. Graeme Parker was then brought on and, despite being knocked for 6 in his first over, he then recovered to take four wickets in a 5 over spell. Prescott joined Parker at the opposite end to dispatch the tail and collect three wickets for himself, leaving the home side all out for 146.
Burn return to home comforts next week as they take on Copmanthorpe in the Cup.
