Burn 1st XI vs Clifton Alliance |
|
Burn hosted Clifton Alliance in Division 1 of the Vale League on Saturday hoping to continue their good start to the season.
Batting first, Burn took full advantage reaching 70 for 0 by drinks in the 14th over. The uncle and nephew pairing of Boo and Leigh Adamson was working wonders until Uncle Boo was caught on 44. Tom Rich gave his wicket away cheaply allowing Rob Webster to join Adamson at the crease. The next 15 overs were a blitz as Webster reached his 50 in 30 balls and Adamson played beautifully and was rewarded with his second century of the season. With wickets in hand Burn became more expansive to the cost of first Webster (72) and then Adamson (106). Skipper Ed Clark was on hand though with a quick cameo performance blasting 27 not out at the death, taking Burn's total to a very impressive 278 for 4.
Clifton Alliance responded quickly and the Burn openers Richard 'Reggie' Miller and Adam Prescott suffered heavy knocks in the opening exchanges. Clark elected to change things bringing on Gareth Beavors and Graeme Parker to great effect. Beavors was very tidy from one end while Parker grabbed two vital wickets to slow Clifton's progress. Ash Abbott was then brought into the attack at the right time as he claimed the important wicket of Lloyd, who had raced to 83, when he was wonderfully caught by Leigh Adamson on the boundary.
Miller and Prescott were then brought back on and claimed 4 wickets between them as Clifton never recovered from the loss of Lloyd, falling 19 runs short at 259 for 7.
With the other three sides in the top four also winning it was a vital victory for the Linnets with Leigh Adamson picking up Man of the Match for his ton and two catches.
