Burn continued to put pressure on Hemingbrough at the top of Division One with another solid victory at Linnet Park on Saturday.
For the first time in 4 matches Burn did not lose a wicket in the opening over but Boo Adamson fell shortly after - clearly still hampered by his broken finger from the week before.
But this allowed skipper Ed Clark to join Lee Adamson at the crease and the pair forged an impressive partnership before Clark was bowled for 86. Adamson continued to have success but was eventually caught behind for 76.
This allowed the teenage pairing of Adam Prescott and Tom Rich to take over the reins. Prescott smashed a quick-fire 50 while ably assisted by Rich who reached 24 not out by the end of 40 overs leaving the home side with a fine total of 267 for 3.
Despite Heworth having lost every game so far this season they did not lie down and provided some excellent rearguard. Opener Sykes was the most impressive reaching 95 before finally being bowled by Prescott in the 39th over. However the visitors never looked like mounting a serious challenge to Burn's total and finished 73 runs short on 194 for 8. All the Burn bowlers chipped in with wickets, with Prescott finishing on 3 for 34 and Graeme Parker fielding two run-outs.
Next week sees Burn face Barmby Moor at home on Saturday in Division One before the HPH Cup final versus Hemingbrough on Sunday played at Heworth.

Burn CC Reach Cup Final for First Time.
Burn CC 1st XI travelled to the edge of The Vale of York on Sunday the 4th of August to meet North Cave in the HPH Cup Semi Final playing for a place in the final of Vale League’s premier cup competition; Edward Clark reports.
With the teams early season league encounter being rained off and the opposition an unknown quantity Burn opted to bat first on a dusty wicket. This decision looked to be a poor one when the in form Leigh Adamson (1) misjudged one early in the innings and spooned it to midwicket and opener Ray Adamson (31) and the incoming youngster Tom Rich (19) struggled to cope with the conditions. With the average bowling receiving some assistance from the unpredictable wicket Burn’s top order were finding the going difficult with Watson (17) Clark (23) Webster(17) all getting a start but failing to kick on. A useful cameo from fast bowler A Prescott Jnr (29) supported by the tail closed the innings at 187 for 9 with Burn pondering if the total would be sufficient.
After the early departure of Page (1) caught behind to a snorter from Prescott (2- 28) Cave continued in aggressive fashion with Hewson (34) and Ferguson (28 in 11 balls) in particular making a mockery of Burn’s earlier problems with the wicket. With the powerful Ferguson at the wicket the game looked to be moving away from Burn when Smith (3-38) deceived him with a slower ball only to see the skied chance dropped by Keeper Webster unsighted by an oversized helmet. Venting his obvious frustration the evergreen Smith duly bowled Ferguson the next delivery with a quick one.
This proved to be the turning point and with tempers still a little frayed in the middle a sharp caught and bowled by Smith and an even better one snaffled by Prescott at short cover removed other key North Cave Men. As the pressure of the chase increased Abbott (2 for 23) and Miller turned the screw. Assisted by some abject North Cave running Burn were able to mop up the tail quickly leaving Cave 87 runs short to take their first ever place in the final.
The final will be played at Heworth CC on Sunday 1st of August vs Hemingbrough or Fulford.
In Saturday’s league fixture Burn 1st XI outclassed an under strength Bishopthorpe to maintain pressure on Hemingbrough before next weeks crucial top of the table clash.

University of York Staff 146 lost to Burn 222-5 by 76 runs
Burn continued their good start to the season with a comprehensive victory over last season's champions at the university in York.
Batting first the away side sent in Boo Adamson and Andy Watson who combined well in the opening exchanges, moving the total on quickly, before Watson was harshly adjudged to be out LBW for 38, when insistent the ball had struck his bat. Adamson continued to profit at the crease and was ably assisted by Tom Rich (18) and Adam Prescott (16 not out) as he made his way to his first century of the season. Adamson lasted the full 40 overs with an impressive 111 not out to further improve his average for the season to 170! Rob Webster also contributed with a quick-fire dozen as Burn reached 222 for 5 at tea.
The Uni Staff were then never allowed to get going. Opening bowlers Prescott and Gareth Beavors were particularly stingy, leaving the home side at only 35 for 2 from 17 overs. Prescott was also impressive in the field with a spectacular direct hit run out. Jamie Bingle then bowled a delighful 12 over spell to further restrict Uni Staff's progress. Graeme Parker was then brought on and, despite being knocked for 6 in his first over, he then recovered to take four wickets in a 5 over spell. Prescott joined Parker at the opposite end to dispatch the tail and collect three wickets for himself, leaving the home side all out for 146.
Burn return to home comforts next week as they take on Copmanthorpe in the Cup.

York V Burn II
Saturday 5th June 2010
Burn travelled to the idyllic setting of ‘The Retreat’ for this fixture with York and with the hosts sitting just above them in the table this one had the feel of testing the Linnets’ credentials to complete for a promotion place after missing out in recent seasons. With the weather set fair and Burn’s batsmen in some form all seemed well until a heavy downpour prior to the start meant that a perfect batting surface soon became a seamer’s paradise as York’s young attack found plenty of movement and bounce. When two early wickets fell captain Crowther must have feared the worst and with some bad feeling around after veteran Geoff England had to retire hurt the initiative was firmly with the home side until an outstanding innings by Andrew Watson (57) brought some much needed control to proceedings. Jamie Bingle contributed 74 in a superbly crafted knock and Burn were able to post a more than respectable 192 all out.
The home side soon got a taste of their own medicine as an early breakthrough by Darren Miller became a procession and at 60 odd for 8 York were staring down the barrel of a heavy defeat. Swaddle (42 not out) and Liversedge (35) then managed to salvage some pride before England restored his dignity with the crucial breakthrough wicket just as it started to look like an improbable victory for the hosts might be on the cards. But with Alex Webster completing his five wicket haul with the removal of York skipper Proctor, York were left on 128 all out and the Linnets duly claimed victory by 64 runs to leapfrog their opponents into third place in the league standings. Burn will be looking to do the same again this weekend as they take on second placed Boston Spa at Linnet Park.

Burn hosted Clifton Alliance in Division 1 of the Vale League on Saturday hoping to continue their good start to the season.
Batting first, Burn took full advantage reaching 70 for 0 by drinks in the 14th over. The uncle and nephew pairing of Boo and Leigh Adamson was working wonders until Uncle Boo was caught on 44. Tom Rich gave his wicket away cheaply allowing Rob Webster to join Adamson at the crease. The next 15 overs were a blitz as Webster reached his 50 in 30 balls and Adamson played beautifully and was rewarded with his second century of the season. With wickets in hand Burn became more expansive to the cost of first Webster (72) and then Adamson (106). Skipper Ed Clark was on hand though with a quick cameo performance blasting 27 not out at the death, taking Burn's total to a very impressive 278 for 4.
Clifton Alliance responded quickly and the Burn openers Richard 'Reggie' Miller and Adam Prescott suffered heavy knocks in the opening exchanges. Clark elected to change things bringing on Gareth Beavors and Graeme Parker to great effect. Beavors was very tidy from one end while Parker grabbed two vital wickets to slow Clifton's progress. Ash Abbott was then brought into the attack at the right time as he claimed the important wicket of Lloyd, who had raced to 83, when he was wonderfully caught by Leigh Adamson on the boundary.
Miller and Prescott were then brought back on and claimed 4 wickets between them as Clifton never recovered from the loss of Lloyd, falling 19 runs short at 259 for 7.
With the other three sides in the top four also winning it was a vital victory for the Linnets with Leigh Adamson picking up Man of the Match for his ton and two catches.

On a warm, sunny evening Burn made the long trip to Sykehouse in Division One of the Snaith Evening League with a strong line-up, hopeful of an upset.
Electing to bat, skipper Boo Adamson sent in Nige Croad and Tom Rich to try and make some early inroads. Plan A failed when Croad was bowled for nought and his replacement Alex Webster soon followed him back into the shed with the same score. Webster's father Mark then entered the fray and, with Rich, started to move the total along. Rich then fell with a disappointing shot selection on 21 when he looked to be getting into his stride.
This, however, allowed the introduction of Ed Clarke who, since the birth of his son Joseph last week, has found form despite losing sleep! Webster and Clarke moved the total on at a swift pace with Webster playing some lovely strokes. The partnership though, as so often in 20-20 cricket, was not to last, with Webster being caught on 27.
Clarke then made his 50 in style being ably assisted by the tail order, and with Jamie Bingle hitting a useful 16 in the last two overs, Burn reached a credible total of 145 for 8.
Sykehouse responded immediately and were 22 for 0 after only two overs. But then the Burn bowlers got into the zone. Richard 'Reggie' Miller and Gareth Beavors slowed the openers and took a couple of precious wickets. They were then replaced with Jamie Bingle and Graeme Parker who both also contributed with a wicket each. Then Alex Webster and Tom Rich entered the fray each bagging wickets for themselves as Sykehouse were never allowed to settle and fell 30 runs short of Burn's total.
An enjoyable evening for the Linnets with bum slaps all round for the bowlers who each contributed well to ensure Burn's first Evening League win of the season.
Man of the Match was the sleepless, yet tireless, Ed Clarke for his quick 50 and impressive work behind the stumps.
